Hotel door lock battery pack

Hotel Guests Demand Convenience & Safety

Give it to them with a new door lock battery pack.

There are tens of thousands of hotels in the United States. That’s a lot of hotel doors and a whole bunch of alkaline hotel door lock battery packs.

Just imagine if the door locks didn’t work or, more specifically, the door lock battery pack. Put another way, your guests expect convenience and safety, and you can succeed or fail in that goal with alkaline hotel door lock batteries. Yet, as critical as alkaline batteries are to any operation, they are often overlooked. With everything involved in running a business, we forget. The fact is, these small electrochemical devices, typically alkaline batteries, have a finite lifespan and lose capacity over time. They require attention!

Alkaline batteries account for 80 percent of all U.S.-manufactured batteries. They are made in standardized cylindrical forms interchangeable with zinc-carbon batteries. The basic voltage of a fresh alkaline cell is 1.5 V, while the capacity of an alkaline battery is strongly related to load. They are a type of primary battery that is dependent on the reaction between zinc and manganese oxide. They are like small power plant that converts a chemical reaction into electrical energy.

Each alkaline battery has two terminals — positive and negative terminal. That chemical reaction inside the battery produces electrons, which gather at the negative terminal of the battery. However, unless the negative terminal is connected to the positive terminal, the chemical reaction stops and no more electricity is produced. That explains why an alkaline battery can sit in a drawer for a long time and keep its power for when needed. If the battery is not used, it will not wear out in a short period of time.

Further, the amount of current an alkaline battery can deliver is proportional to its physical size. This is a result of decreasing internal resistance as the internal surface area of the cell increases. Generally, an AA alkaline battery can deliver 700 mA without any significant heating. Larger cells, such as C and D cells, can deliver more current. Applications requiring currents of several amperes will require D-sized cells to handle the increased load.

The development of the rechargeable alkaline battery has been a great recent advancement, with a different formula and blend of materials allowing these batteries to not only be recharged, but to also hold their charge for years, unlike other types of rechargeable batteries. These batteries represent a form of energy storage that is ultimately less costly to the consumer, and one that has less environmental impact.

But this is all way too technical.
What to think about? Simply, keep this in mind: Be proactive. Four standard 1.5V AA alkaline batteries can typically power more than 15,000 open cycles under normal operating conditions. On the other hand, weak batteries must be detected before they become bad batteries — they must be replaced before failure. And we are here to help!
